The potato starch campaign at the Haussimont potato starch mill was wrapped up at the end of January following 133 days of processing. The campaign involved nearly 10,000 hectares and processed 470,000 metric tons of potatoes.
For Haussimont, 2017 will be marked by the arrival of production from Vic-sur-Aisne cooperative growers and the doubling of amounts processed. The mill will now process the production of 500 cooperative growers who farm nearly 10,000 hectares. With this perspective in mind, Tereos has begun adaptation and modernizing work of the potato starch mill, which will be complete by the beginning of the next campaign in September.
A wide range of applications
Potato processing results in four major categories of products: starch, proteins, protamylasse and pulp intended for the food industry, animal feed, paper/cardboard production and green chemistry.
Potato starch, which accounts for the majority of production at Haussimont, is recognized by industrial producers for its specific properties, especially in the agrifood sector. It is a component of numerous products in daily life, especially in processing certain sauces, prepared foods and Chinese noodles because of its textural and thickening properties.
