The group processed\u00a020.9\u00a0million\u00a0tons of sugarcane,\u00a0with a yield of\u00a012.2\u00a0tons of sugar per hectare,\u00a0producing\u00a01.9\u00a0million tons of sugar, 730\u00a0million liters\u00a0of\u00a0ethanol,\u00a0and\u00a01,150 GWh\u00a0of bioelectricity.<\/h3>\n

Tereos Sugar & Energy Brazil,\u00a0a\u00a0wholly-owned\u00a0subsidiary of Tereos Group, the second-largest\u00a0worldwide\u00a0sugar producer, wraps up the 2020\/21 harvest\u00a0season\u00a0today, breaking several production records.<\/strong> In the\u00a0cycle\u00a0initiated in April, the Group\u2019s seven units in the country processed 20.9 million tons of sugarcane,\u00a0the highest amount ever milled in the company\u2019s history.\u00a0In\u00a0the previous\u00a0period,\u00a0the\u00a0company\u00a0milled\u00a019 million tons.<\/p>\n

The enhanced agricultural productivity was another historical record. The company achieved a yield of 12.2 tons of sugar per hectare. \u201cDespite adverse climate conditions, with a prolonged drought during this season, we were able to increase our agricultural yield\u00a0thanks\u00a0to\u00a0our\u00a0investments in crop production technologies, improved variety census, and Tereos’ digital transformation progress, with more assertive\u00a0and prompted\u00a0use of data, enhancing farming operations<\/em>,\u201d commented Jacyr Costa Filho, a member of Tereos Group Executive Board.<\/p>\n

The investments made over the past few years in the seven industrial units, as well as managerial changes, resulted in a progressive i<\/strong>ncrease of industrial performance, allowing the daily historical record of milling 120,300 tons of sugarcane.<\/strong> \u201cFurthermore, there was a substantial enhance in sugar recovery, measured by the industrial efficiency of 92.2%<\/em>,\u201d added the executive.<\/p>\n

Records in producing sugar and bioenergy<\/h3>\n

In a year of better\u00a0prices\u00a0for the sweetener, Tereos production mix wrapped up with 63% sugar and 37% ethanol.\u00a0This season, sugar production reached a record of 1.9 million tons, 19% more than\u00a0in\u00a0the 2019\/20 cycle<\/strong>.\u00a0Even with lower participation in this\u00a0campaign\u2019s\u00a0mix,\u00a0ethanol\u00a0production\u00a0saw an increase of 11%, achieving 730 million liters.\u00a0By year\u2019s end, the company should\u00a0accomplish\u00a0a total of 1,150 GWh of cogenerated bioenergy\u00a0sold in the market,\u00a0also a record\u00a0and\u00a018%\u00a0more than\u00a0in\u00a0the previous harvest.<\/strong>\u00a0Adding the traded volume to the energy consumed by the operation and donated to institutions, the overall cogeneration volume should surpass 1.600 GWh.<\/p>\n

In a challenging moment, the investment made in logistics in partnership with VLI has proven essential to support Tereos\u2019 sugar exports, which registered an increase of 60%. The estimate is to ship out 1.15 million tons of sugar in this harvest, another historical record.<\/strong>\u00a0Counting with a logistic system that prioritizes the railway modal, in addition to boosting the loading capacity, has made the Group increasingly competitive, a matter of relevance in the sugar-energy sector, while also being more sustainable, as railways contribute to lower emissions of greenhouse gases.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was quite a positive year for our sustainability journey. In March, we\u00a0completed\u00a0the\u00a0RenovaBio\u00a0program\u00a0certifications for all our units and started to trade\u00a0CBios\u00a0in July. In June, we announced\u00a0the first sustainable loan of the sugar-energy sector, linked to green targets. And kick-started the project to\u00a0biogas\u00a0production\u00a0from\u00a0vinasse<\/em>,\u201d concluded Costa Filho.<\/p>\n
